Celebrity weddings are nothing short of a royal affair. From 5-star venues to designer gowns, Hollywood stars leave no expense spared when it comes to their special day. However, not all marriages work out, and divorce rates in the entertainment industry are even higher than the national average.
But when Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries’ much-anticipated wedding day arrived, no one had thought that their marital bliss would only last 72 days. While it’s not certain that the wedding was a publicity stunt for their reality television show, it surely was a spectacle that fans remember to this day.
The wedding guest list included some of the biggest names in Hollywood, who gave the couple lavish gifts that tallied up to almost $700,000! Among these congratulatory tokens was a wedding present that neither of them was expecting.
Kim Kardashian first met the NBA star at one of his basketball games, and things moved quickly ever since, leading to a wedding only nine months into dating. This might seem like a short time for getting to know the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, but for Kris and Kim, it was love at first sight.
But just 72 days later, the fairytale romance was over. Years later, Humphries addressed the speculations about their marriage by saying that their relationship was genuine, although the over-the-top wedding may have been just for the cameras.
The Kardashians had already decided that they would document the entire event for their reality show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, from the preparation to finalizing the guest list and the exchange of the vows. So it made sense for them to spend $10 million on the entire affair, especially with 450 A-list guests in attendance.
The wedding gifts worth $700,000 didn’t include a $325,000 white Ferrari that the couple received from a mystery admirer who later turned out to be a convict. No one had thought that the luxury car could become such a nightmare for the couple, but it was revealed the man who had offered it was a Malaysian businessman, Jho Low, who stole $5 billion from his government.
Kris and Kim weren’t the only ones who received a lavish gift from the shamed businessman. Other celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio, who was gifted a Picasso painting, was also contacted by the Justice Department and requested to return the present.
