Seltzer water is everywhere. From restaurants to office fridges, this bubbly drink has become the go-to for people trying to ditch sugary sodas. It is fizzy, refreshing, and has zero calories. Sounds perfect, right? Well, not so fast.

Like most things, seltzer water comes with upsides and downsides. Let’s break down the facts so you know exactly what you are sipping:

Seltzer water does just as good a job at hydrating you as still water. The bubbles don’t get in the way of hydration. Your body absorbs it the same way, and it works just as well to quench your thirst. So, if you hate flat water, this bubbly alternative can help you stay on track.

It is especially helpful if you are trying to drink more water but find plain tap water boring. Seltzer gives you that satisfying fizz without adding sugar, caffeine, or calories. It is a win for your water goals.

If you are confused at the store, here is a cheat sheet. Seltzer is just water with bubbles, nothing more. Sparkling mineral water is fizzy water from a natural source, often with healthy minerals. Club soda has added sodium or other minerals. Tonic water has sugar and is basically a soft drink. Big difference.

Want flavor? Skip the pre-flavored cans and DIY it. Add lemon, lime, or berries for a fresh taste without the sketchy additives. It is also cheaper.
